Plastering

In order to provide an aesthetically pleasing look structural elements of buildings usually require a finish layer. this finish layer can be achieved in many different ways however one of the most common is plastering. Different applications require different methods however a well applied coat produces and excellent base for decorative elements such as paint, wallpaper or tiles.

Internal walls are often finished with a gypsum based skim coat which can be applied to masonry or to plasterboard. To achieve a good finish to skim preparation of the base is crucial. On masonry this base can be achieved using a traditional sand and cement mortar or a lightweight gypsum based undercoat known as hardcoat, which has the advantage of being capable of spray application. Skim coat can generally be applied directly to plasterboard, however in some instances a bonding coat is required.
